Mark your calendars! In honor of this year's National Park Service Centennial, we are holding an event called "A Century of Assateague Memories" on Wednesday, February 17th at the Assateague Island National Seashore Environmental Education Center (the old visitor center) in Berlin, MD. The event will take place from 10am – 2pm.
We're looking of all kinds of Assateague memories: Assateague scrap books, old Ocean Beach/Atlantic Estates documents, pictures of the US Life Saving Stations, newspaper clippings, family photographs or even home movies that were taken on the island. We will gladly accept the donation of materials to include in our archives or we can make a copy of it and return the originals to you. We'll also be set up to collect oral history interviews, so feel free to bring stories about the island before it was designated a national seashore or while the national seashore was in its infancy.
We recognize that Assateague’s history is in the people who have interacted with the island over time. We want to make sure that these stories are preserved so that future generations can learn from and enjoy them.
