SELBYVILLE, Del. — B. Irvin Rippons, 70, of Selbyville, Del., passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with his family by his side.

He was born in Baltimore on Oct. 12, 1944 and was a son of Isabel Tall Rippons and the late Solomon Irvin Rippons.

Irvin attended schools in South Dorchester. On Aug. 3, 1961 he married the former Judy Truitt. Irvin was a waterman and founded B.I. Rippons Seafood. In 1985, he established Rippons Seafood and Carry Out in Ocean City, where he continued until 2006.

Most recently, he went back to the bay as a commercial fisherman. Irvin was a competitive shooter, enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing. He also enjoyed conservative politics, NASCAR, the Orioles and the Ravens. He loved spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of the NRA, Maryland and Delaware Marksman’s Association, where he received many awards, the Bridgeville Gun Club, U.S. Practical Shooting Association, International Defense Pistol Association, Delmarva Gun Club, and Maryland Waterman’s Association.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Rippons of Selbyville, Del.; two daughters, Tammy Doring and husband Kevin of Harwood, Md., and Jill Hartwell and husband Sean of Ownings, Md.; four grandchildren, Rachel Doring, Caroline Doring, Ben Hartwell and Kate Hartwell; his mother, Isabel Rippons of Fishing Creek; two sisters, Shirley Anne Simmons of Church Creek and Nancy Powley of Fishing Creek; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers in his service were Bryan Hall, Robin Hall, Martin Tolley, Jimmy Simmons, Joe Truitt, Pete Stanley, Kevin Doring and Sean Hartwell. Honorary pallbearers were be Calvin Travers, Marcus Flowers, Jr., Scott Poland, Timmie Cannon, Ricky Fitzhugh and Ronnie Williams.

A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Marion Griffin officiating. Interment followed at Dorchester Memorial Park. Family received friends prior.
