Salisbury Zoo to Celebrate 60th Anniversary Friday Evening

The Salisbury Zoo was founded in 1954 when many animals were placed on permanent exhibition in the Salisbury City Park. The zoo made improvements in the 1970’s and now provides enclosures for species native to North, Central and South America. The Zoo is open every day, year round from 9AM to 4:30PM except for Christmas and Thanksgiving Day. The best part about this wonderful spot… it’s free! One of our favorite pastimes is taking a picnic to the Salisbury Park and then heading to the zoo afterwards. The Salisbury Zoo also takes great pride in the events they hold each fall and holiday season. With tons of space and a great exhibition area, it’s no wonder they like to show off their beautiful landscape. Some of the conservatory areas include wolves, deer, turkey, jaguar, owls, bison, llama, waterfowl, bobcats, tropical birds, monkeys, flamingos, bears and otters.

As you know, ShoreBread is a huge fan of everything and anything Salisbury Zoo. We are so proud of our local zoo and everything they stand for. This year is a special one for our beloved zoo, it’s their 60th anniversary! They are doing it up big with a HUGE party for you, your family and your friends. The Zoo will be open until 7:30PM on September 26th to accommodate all of the visitors. “The theme is peace, love and the Salisbury Zoo because it’s our 60th Anniversary” said Mary Seemann, Marketing and Development Coordinator. “It’s just going to be a really great time.”

The evening will be free to the public offering educational talks, demonstrations, animal enrichment, face painting, Zoo history presentations and our favorite part, CAKE! In addition to all of this, there will be costumed animal friends for little kids. “Fuel Up to Play 60” – an initiative put together by the National Dairy Council and the NFL that empowers students to take get fit and eat right – will be at the event with demonstrations on the stage to inform the community about this great program.

Also, Nancy Ferguson, a local fiber artist, will also be on the scene to demonstrate how to spin alpaca wool. Mayor Jim Ireton will present the Zoo with a proclamation and birthday cake will be served (our favorite part!).  In addition, Special 60’s themed t-shirts will be on sale. Make sure you are one of the first people there to receive a FREE Commemorative Zoo magnet.

We are so excited for this awesome party and plan on bringing our camera for some fun pictures of the animals, celebrations and the delicious cake. (From what we hear it will be huge!) “Please come out! Be there or be square,” said Seemann.
