If there is one thing our community does exceptionally well it’s coming together for great, honorable causes. Whether we are banding together to help raise money for community members battling cancer or supporting terrific causes, our local communities do a fantastic job of looking after their own. Brews for Boobs is no exception, as the inaugural string of events aims to get the local community involved in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the first time ever, Brews for Boobs will be holding its weekly Thursday night fundraising events – an eight-week stretch of events to be exact – at each of the local breweries, from Ocean City to Delmar.

The event officially kicks off this Thursday, September 11^th at 7:00PM at Backshore Brewing on the boardwalk. Brews for Boobs is happening all September and October long, with weekly trips to different breweries to benefit the “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” foundation:

• 9/25 Assawoman Bay- OC, MD
• 10/2 De Lazy Lizard- OC, MD
• 10/9 Tall Tales- Parsonsburg, MD

• 10/23 OC Brewing Company- OC, MD
• 10/30 Burley Oak- Berlin, MD

“For the past couple of years, I have volunteered with Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and this is the 1^st year I’ve been a committee member,” said Yesim Karaman, coordinator of Brews for Boobs. “I really wanted an event that everyone including my friends and I could go to and have fun.” Last year, Burley Oak had a guest bartending event that donated to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and it turned out to be a great success, added Karaman. “I decided we needed another brewery event. Mike Lee, a friend who is a manager at Lazy Lizard Brew Pub, was the first person I approached and he was immediately on board. We thought having several events would be an enjoyable way to have a weekly event that people would look forward to. Each brewery is unique and we wanted to showcase each one in its own light.”

As word got around about the unique string of fundraising events, locals started getting excited, resulting in plans already in the works for next year. “Everyone is so excited about this fundraiser, breast cancer touches so many different people in so many different ways,” said Karaman. “We’re really hoping this year is a success because we’re already talking about planning next year’s too!”

This event is focusing heavily on reaching out to the younger demographic for support. (Bring friends!!) “The goal is of course to raise money which will directly benefit MSABC but we also want to show our demographic how fundraising for a great cause can be fun,” said Karaman. “We would be grateful for any money that we can raise. All of the breweries have committed some sort of a donation. Even if we only raise $1, it’s worth it for a great cause.” There is more fun to be had, with opportunities for those that participate to win raffles at each event.
