Benefit Planned For Local Man’s Family To Help With Funeral Costs

By: DispatchAdmin via Maryland Coast Dispatch

OCEAN CITY — An Ocean City man passed away last week after some sort of medical event led to an accident in downtown Ocean City.

On Jan. 23, at approximately 7 a.m. Ocean City Police and Paramedics responded to the area of Baltimore Avenue and 6th Street in reference to single-vehicle traffic collision.

The driver was unconscious when officers arrived and CPR was initiated. Ocean City EMS transported the driver to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival. The driver has been identified as Walter Milan Corey, 56, of Ocean City.

Members of the Ocean City Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit responded and later determined that the vehicle had veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. Police are unsure at this time what caused Corey to veer off the roadway. Autopsy results from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are pending.

Good friends of Corey, Ocean City Councilman Wayne Hartman and Bob Jester, owner of Trader Lee’s, are organizing a fundraiser to support his family. Corey, formerly of Winchester, Mass. And known to most as “Scott,” had worked for Hartman for the past several years as a self-employed contractor. Corey was on the way to a project on 26th Street when the accident occurred.

“The damage to the truck was horrific. He was pretty slow and steady, and the looks of the impact we think there was a medical emergency that led up to it,” Hartman said on Tuesday.

The fundraiser will be held at Trader Lee’s on Saturday, Jan.31, at 4 p.m. Happy hour prices will be available and guests are encouraged to bring a dish. There will be no charge for admission but donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go to Corey’s family to support funeral expenses.

For further information call Trader Lee’s at 410-213-2000.
