There are special regulations covering bluefin tuna, bigeye and yellowfin tuna. Federal size limit 27" minimum. Bluefin tuna have additional restrictions. Anglers should be able to identify the different tunas. Fines for illegal bluefins are high. All tuna anglers must have a federal tuna permit. For permits or information, call 888-USA-TUNA.

Sharks
Large coastal, small coastal and pelagic species of shark, including makos, have a combined limit of 2 sharks per vessel per day. For complete information on sharking regulations, please call the National Marine Fisheries Service at 301-713-2347.

Crabs
Season: April 1 to Dec. 31.
Minimum sizes: Hard crab, 5 inches; Soft crab, 3 1/2 inches; Peeler crab: 3 inches.

It is legal to crab from docks, piers, bridges and shorelines using hand lines and dip nets, and to crab from a boat from 5:30 a.m. to sunset in rivers, creeks and tributaries. It is legal to catch one bushel of crabs per person per day for personal consumption, but no more than two bushels of crabs per boat per day.

It is unlawful to possess an egg bearing (sponge) crab. It is unlawful for a recreational crabber to have in his possession daily more than one bushel of crabs and no more than two bushels of crabs per boat regardless of the number of persons onboard. It is a criminal offense to fish crab pots which belong to another person.
