The District Court handles all traffic cases and misdemeanor criminal offenses. The Circuit Court handles all serious felony criminal offenses, jury trials in any criminal case and appeals for the District Court. A criminal defendant has numerous rights including the right to trial, the right to call witnesses, the right to cross-examine witnesses, the right to counsel, the right to have legal evidence suppressed, the right against self-incrimination and others.
